  • These Five Tips Will Help Get Rid Of Water In Your Ears:

  • Let time and gravity do the trick. Lie on your side where the water is trapped and rest your head on a towel to absorb the water. Slowly but surely the water should make its way down and out of your ear.
  • Try rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. This can help dry out the ear canal. Use caution, however. Dont use alcohol drops if you have a perforated eardrum, as this will cause severe pain, and high levels could be toxic to the ear. Read How to Properly Use Ear Drops for helpful tips and recommendations.
  • Use a hairdryer. Pull down on your ear gently to help straighten the ear canal with one hand and with the other, use the hairdryer on the cool setting to dry out your ear.
  • Chew, yawn, shake and tug. When water gets stuck, move your mouth and jaw around to help move your TMJ, or jaw joint, which is connected to your ear canal. Shake your head to provide added assistance. You can also gently tug on the outer portion of your ear to straighten out the ear canal and allow water to drain out.
  • Avoid using your finger, cotton swab or other objects. As tempting as it may be, avoid poking around inside your ear. Doing so may push obstructions deeper into your ear canal and puncture your eardrum. What Is The Drug

If you have a serious illness like the flu which is causing the sinus pressure, you should still take your medicine. However, you will still benefit from using this technique to clear your sinuses.

    1. Position your body so that you are leaning back at a 45-degree angle. This is important for helping drain the fluid in your sinuses.

    2. While sitting back in this position, turn your head to the side and rub the sternocleidomastoid muscle up and down, about four or five times . Turn your head again and repeat on the other side.

    3. With your fingers, rub the sides of your nose, just below where the bony upper section meets the softer, lower part. Massage these areas in a circular motion as hard as you can for about 20 seconds. After this, rub the same area and the parts of the nose connecting to the cheek bones to relax them further.

    4. After this, locate the super orbital notch, on top of the eye socket above the eyes. Massage these notches, again, in a circular motion, for 20 seconds. Then move to the forehead, and massage above the eyes in an outward motion for another 20 seconds or so.

The pressure exerted on the sinuses by these massages, combined with the angle of your body, will cause the mucus to drain out the sinuses and back down the throat. You will be able to breathe easier and be free of headaches and congestion.

    Use Humidifiers Within The Home

Wherever you can, keep your sinuses moist. When they dry out, the pressure feels worse, and you can suffer more symptoms, such as dizziness and headaches. Humidifiers are the easiest and quickest way to keep your sinuses moist throughout the day, especially when you are in the home. They help to add moisture to the air, regardless of the temperatures and humidity outside. If you live in an area known for dry heat, you will want to consider a humidifier for other reasons. They are excellent for keeping the skin moist and supporting the heat of the rest of your body.

Keep the humidifiers running throughout the night. This is often when most people experience drier temperatures and need the help. You can avoid waking up with the feeling that you have been in the sauna.

If you cannot use a humidifier for any reason, you will need to consider your other options to keep your sinuses moist and clear. One of the best options is a nasal saline spray.

Most people will think of the pharmaceutical options, but they are not necessary. You can make your own with just some filtered or pre-boiled water. You will want to make sure the toxins and minerals are removed from the water before using it as a saline spray.

Dont use the saline mixtures within the ears. You can cause damage to your hearing. Only opt for ear saline treatments when used by a trained professional.

Congestion In Ears But Not Nose: What Could It Be

January 7, 2021 by Ear, Nose, Throat & Facial Plastic Surgery Specialists

The sinuses are a system of hollow, air-filled spaces located on either side of your nose and above/between your eyes. Since the ears, nose and throat are all interconnected, inflammation in the sinuses can lead to problems elsewhere in the ENT region. For instance, ear congestion often occurs in combination with nasal congestion. However, it is also possible to experience congestion in the ears but not the nose. In this article, well look at a few potential reasons why this might occur.

The team at Ear Nose Throat & Facial Plastic Surgery Specialists draws on more than 50 years of experience to skillfully treat sinus-related issues of all sorts. To find out more about our Willow Grove ENT & allergy specialists, call our office at 215-659-8805.

Why Does Ear Pressure Build Up

The pressure in your ear can build up when the eustachian tube is blocked or stops functioning as it should. Several conditions can cause ear pressure buildup and result in additional symptoms.

If left untreated, your ear pressure can continue to build up and cause further damage.

    At-Home Treatments for Ear Pressure

Ear pressure can have many causes and these causes often determine what treatment should be used. If the cause of your ear pressure is easy to identify, you may be able to treat it at home.

    Some at-home treatment options include:

    Fluid In The Ear Discussion

Family, Pediatric and Pregnancy Chiropractic Care

Fluid in the ears commonly affects children from infancy until about ten years of age. The medical term for this problem is Otitis Media with effusion, also known as Serous Otitis Media. Many schools screen children for this problem. It is not uncommon for the school nurse to see the need to send a note home indicating that a child has failed a hearing test. Most often the note will include a suggestion that the child be checked by an ear doctor. Children with Down syndrome and cleft palate very often have problems with fluid in the ears.

The ear has a space behind the ear drum called the middle ear. The lining of this space makes a fluid to keep the tissues moist. This fluid drains through a little tube that runs to the back of the nose. Colds, allergies, infected adenoids, or sinusitis, can cause congestion of the nose and eustachian tube. This congestion causes the tube to be blocked. With the tube blocked the fluid in the middle ear cannot drain.

The fluid causes two problems. First, the sound waves are not transmitted through the ear and this causes a hearing loss. This can be a very serious problem with children trying to hear a teacher in a noisy classroom. Most children will become bored very quickly if they cant hear whats going on and an educational delay can occur. Although this is serious, it is not quite as dangerous to the health of the child as the second problem.

    Anatomy of the Ear

To understand whats happening, we have to peer into the anatomy of the ear. In particular, the function of the Eustachian tube. The Eustachian tube is a canal connecting the middle ear to the nasal cavity and the back of the throat. It acts as a pressure control for the middle ear, equalizing pressure in the air outside with the pressure inside the ear.

Ear & Sinus Problems : How to Unclog an Ear From an Ear Infection

The most common cause of Eustachian tube dysfunction is when the tube become swollen and mucus or fluid builds up. This can be caused by a cold, the flu, a sinus infection, or allergies. Some people are at greater risk for Eustachian tube dysfunction. They include:

    • Children. Their tubes are shorter and straighter than those of an adult. This makes it easier for germs to reach the middle ear and for fluid to become trapped there. Also, childrens immune systems are not fully developed. This makes it harder for them to fight off infections.
    • People who smoke. Smoking damages the cilia . This can allow mucus to gather in the tubes.

Pressure Points Near The Hands And Arms

The Online Acupressure Guide of Stanford University suggests three pressure points on the hands and arms that may help relieve sinusitis symptoms and ease your sinus pain.To find the first point, look for a small depression on your upper wrist, directly in line with your thumb. The next point lies just below your thumbnail, on the side of your thumb farthest away from the rest of your fingers.

To find the third sinusitis pain point, squeeze your thumb and forefinger together. Right above the crease between your forefinger and thumb, youâll feel a ridge. Applying pressure to the middle of that ridge is âgood for most problems from the waist up,â claims the Online Acupressure Guide.
