The heavy cycle did an astounding job with an 82.95% performance, which soars above the average and is a tad below our maximum performance measurement of 84.3%.
These cycle measurements were taken without using the Extra Power button, meaning this washing machine will work hard regardless of its extra features.
Maytag Centennial Washer Not Spinning Fast Enough What To Try

The direct drive motor coupling is used on some top-load and front-load machines instead of a belt drive. Its main purpose is to transfer power from the motor to the transmission. As it wears, the coupling will slip and eventually fail to engage the drive forks that allow the basket to agitate or spin.

Drain Manually If Needed
If you have deduced that the issue is most likely still a clog in the drain hose that you were unable to easily access, you will need to remove the drain hose from the machine to thoroughly inspect it.
Before doing this, however, you need to manually empty your machine. Otherwise, the water will spill out when you disconnect the hose. While an unpleasant process, the mess can be kept to a minimum if you make use of buckets and towels.
Four: Level The Appliance

Faulty Lid Switch Assembly

Resetting A Maytag Washer That Is Coin Operated
If the Maytag washer you are having problems with is a commercial coin-operated machine, the method of reset can be slightly different.
The following steps can be used to reset a Maytag coin-operated washer with an LED display:
- To first activate program mode on the washer, unlock the lockbox.
- Locate the Delicates and Knits option on the LED display. This mode can be found in the washing options menu.
- For five seconds, keep pressing the Delicates and Knits button. The washers LED display should begin to blink and flash, indicating that the error codes have been eliminated and the washer has been reset.

Maytag advertises that the MHW5630HW offers the “most powerful cleaning in the industry driven by the Heavy Duty cycle with Extra Power button.” Of course, we tested this claim.
Our data shows that the Heavy Duty cycle is pretty powerful on its own. Without the Extra Power setting added to it, the Heavy Duty cycle had a cleaning performance of 82%, which soars above the performance average of 77% and just under the maximum performance of 84%.
How much oomph could the Extra Power setting add? Turns out, it doesn’t add anything. When we tested the Heavy Duty cycle and added on the Extra Power option, the cycle only had a 77.5% performance. This is disappointing considering that adding on this setting decreased the performance of the Heavy Duty cycle, but increased the actual cycle time it took to wash the clothes.
Whats more is that during our tests, the Heavy Duty cycle with Extra Power added used 20% more water, but 20% less hot water. The extra water can dilute the detergent, therefore hindering its ability to fight stains. A decrease in hot water usage also decreases stain fighting particularly on oil and blood stains.
These test results demonstrate that the Extra Power setting detracts from, rather than adds to, its value.

Prop Up The Washer Front
The next step is interesting, you may not have heard of this one before. Lift up the front of your washing machine and place two paint cans underneath, one under each front foot. If youre not fixing a Maytag and your drain is behind the back panel, tip it the other direction and look up the steps to open that panel instead. You may need the help of a friend for this part.

Check The Pump Housing
Now you should be able to see the drain pump, the internal drain hose, and the bottom of the washer tub. Its time to start hunting for that sock-clog. Start by looking in the drain pump housing, which is often translucent. You may even be able to see whatevers in there. Disconnect the drain hose, ready to catch any water with a towel. Then clamp the drain hose for now.
If something is caught in the drain pump, youll need to unhook the belt from the drain pulley underneath. Grasp the clogging item with your needle-nose pliers and twist the pulley to unwind the item from the drain assembly. Pull the clogging item out from the top of the pump, where the drain hose was connected.
Tip #: Check For Jammed Clothes
One common cause why a Maytag top load washer wont spin is due to an uneven load or jammed clothing.
Larger items or loads tend to settle on one side of the washer drum during a cycle. Try to redistribute the load or remove a few articles of clothing and run the spin cycle on your washer again.

Seven: Check The Stator
The stator, along with the rotor, are both responsible for the strong electromagnetic field that allows the tub to spin. Specifically, check the windings in the stator to determine its state.
If there is significant damage, you need to replace the stator. As with the rotor, you can only access the stator by dismantling the bottom of your washer.
Check The Washer For Excessive Sudsing
Find out if theres excessive sudsing because if there is, you are likely to get draining or spinning faults.
The long-term solution for this is to always measure the detergent according to the manufacturers directions .
