How To Test The Lid Switch

First, take a look at the switch, if its clearly broken its probably the cause of your drainage issue. If it looks okay try pushing it down manually if the machine springs to life and the water level goes down then the lid switch is not making contact with the washing machine lid when you close it.

What If I Have An Older Washer
Older washers have a dial with a specific pump out zone that removes the water from your washer. As a result, forcing the dial forward will cause your washer to skip that pump out mode.

Three: Remove And Clean The Filter
The filter is a mesh screen that likely contains a large number of clothing fibers. Put some rubber gloves on and start removing the contents of the filter into a trash bag.
The filter should be easily removable. Do that and clean it out in the sink to ensure that there is no gunk left behind. If you find change here, it is a sign that you need to check your pockets more often. This drain cannot handle larger debris.
Find The Drain Hose At The Back Of The Washing Machine
The drain hose resides behind your washer and connects the washing machine to your exterior washing machine drainpipe. If your drain hose is bent or has a kink, it may block the water flow. If this seems to be the issue, simply straighten the hose.
If it does not appear to have a bend or kink, your next step is to disconnect it from the washing machine drain. If necessary, unscrew the hose with a clamp attached. Always keep the hose higher than the washer tub until youre ready to empty out the water.

My Washing Machine Won’t Drain
If your washing machine won’t drain the excess water, then it will either be caused by a blockage or the pump is broken. You can check which is more likely by listening to the machine during a cycle.
If you can hear the pump running but the water isn’t draining, then it’s a blockage. If you can’t hear the pump, something’s wrong with it.
Whether it’s a coin, key or loose sock, blockages are common in washing machines.
First unplug the washing machine and lay down some towels water will leak out. Next, inspect the pump filter, which is typically situated at the bottom of the machine, and clear it of any debris.
Now, inspect the drain hose. Typically attached to the waste trap under the sink, the drain hose will be connected via a spigot.
Unscrew this and empty the excess water from the hose into a bucket or sink. Look in the hose and the waste trap for blockages and remove if necessary.
If none of the above works, check the pump itself for small items of clothing or material that might have wrapped around the impeller.

My Washing Machine Door Won’t Open
There are plenty of reasons why a washing machine door might refuse to budge, including:
- Drainage As with all washing machines, if the excess water cannot be drained away from the drum adequately, not only will the cycle stop but the door will also lock. If you can visibly see water left in the drum at the end of the wash then it’s likely you have a blockage in the drain hose or the pump. See above for how to drain water from your machine.
- Door damage If the door, handle or latch has any damage this could cause the machine to cease opening. Inspect your door before calling out the repair man.
- Faulty interlock The interlock is a mechanism further inside that keeps the door shut while a wash is in process. If this is damaged, the washing machine won’t know the wash has stopped and therefore won’t signal that the door can be opened. Diagnosing and replacing this can be tricky, so it’s worth calling a professional in.

Look For The Clog And Pull It Out
The pump has a translucent housing, so you might even see the offending piece of clothing wrapped up in the pump.
- Loosen the clamp that holds the hose to the bottom of the tub and remove the hose.
- Pro tip: Have a bucket and sponge handy. Any water thats left in the machine will run out.

Why Does My Washing Machine Shake Move And Vibrate
If your washing machine won’t stop vibrating or even moves around the room during a wash, it probably needs levelling out. Every washing machine has to sit level on a flat surface and if it isn’t it will shake, especially during spin cycles.
Check if the machine is aligned using a spirit level. If it isn’t, adjust the feet underneath accordingly.
If the feet are level, then it might be the surface causing the issue. Uneven flooring can create a shaky machine so you can try sitting it on a sturdy piece of wood or old desktop and manoeuvre the corners to even it out.
Unbalanced washing loads can also create lots of movement. For example, sSqueezing in eight large bath towels and a bed sheet is too much for a 6kg-capacity washing machine it’s bound to vibrate.
If you’ve just moved house or your washing machine is new, make sure you have removed the transit bolts. These bolts are fitted to the rear panel of the machine and help to lock the drum in place while it’s being moved.
Machines typically have three or four bolts that must be removed before you can use it. If they aren’t taken off this will cause vibrations and could eventually cause irreparable damage.

Check The Hose And Standpipe
If clearing the pump didnt help, you need to inspect the main drain hose and standpipe. You might want to wear rubber gloves and put a towel down.
Unplug the machine again and pull it forward if necessary to give you room round the back. Check the full length of the drain hose for any kinks or twists. If you dont see any, pull the hose from the standpipe and remove any obvious lumps of matter, then work along the hoses length, flexing it as much as possible to feel for any obvious blockages.
You may be able to break blockages up by flexing the hose, or by poking them with a straightened coat hanger.
Next, check the outside of the standpipe for water if its wet there might be a blockage in the drain itself. A powerful drain cleaner might help here, but be careful when pouring it in if the drain is fully blocked, corrosive chemicals may overflow the pipe.
In all cases, be careful when you replace the hose in the standpipe. Dont push it in too far, and make sure theres a gap around it to allow trapped air to escape. Leave any drain cleaner time to work, then repeat the drain test from step three.
If the washing machine drains, push it back into place, but check as you do so that the hose isnt becoming pinched. Use the provided u-shaped guide if necessary to prevent kinks near the standpipe.
